What first interested you in the theme of FANTASTIC, FOUND and FAKE?
The relationships of the theme ‘fantastic found and fake’ with my work.
What is the name of your piece for the festival?
‘Mineral Water’
If you had to describe the piece in one sentence what would it be?
A glass tank of minerals, crystals and water seen under ultraviolet light, revealing an eerie array of colour.
In your opinion, what has been the most exciting/interesting part of Conjunction 08?
The involvement with Airspace and ‘Conjunction’ as a contemporary art festival.
How would you describe yourself as an artist?
A contemporary emerging artist working with science and light.
Who are your biggest influences?
James Turell, Anish Kapoor, Olafur Eliasson, Leonardo Da vinci, Art historian Martin Kemp.
Had you ever visited Stoke-on-Trent prior to your involvement with Conjunction?
Studied Fine Art at Staffordshire University, graduating with a first class honours in 2005.
What one piece of advice would you give to someone who wanted to practice professionally as an artist?
Be driven and ambitious.
What’s next for you?
I will be developing a public artwork in response to a three month residency at Ruthin craft centre, North Wales, as a result of the recent completion of its new building due to 4.4 million Arts Council Wales Grant. The residency initiative is in partnership with Safle, the public art organisation for Wales.
What is your ‘Must See’ of the Festival?
The chapel – an amazing site, showing off the wonders of the artworks placed within its environment.
