Title
CloseFollowing the interesting artist talk from Alex Frost and the panel discussion I thought I would bring a little bit of insight into the other artists involved with Conjunction 08: FANTASTIC, FOUND and FAKE. So I put together a short questionnaire and you will find the results here in the days following...
Starting with Paul Vivian:
What first interested you in the theme of FANTASTIC, FOUND and FAKE?
I liked the concept and felt affinity with the intention.
What is the name of your piece for the festival?
I have three pieces, I have always collectively called my work in this mode ‘homemade projections’ for fairly pragmatic reasons.
If you had to describe the piece in one sentence what would it be?
Casual, intimate and temporary.
In your opinion, what has been the most exciting/interesting part of Conjunction 08?
Meeting the other artists.
How would you describe yourself as an artist?
Someone who wants to not communicate but has to.
Who are your biggest influences?
Al taylor and Bas Jan Ader currently, changes regularly.
Had you ever visited Stoke-on-Trent prior to your involvement with Conjunction?
No this was the first time.
What one piece of advice would you give to someone who wanted to practice professionally as an artist?
Avoid working in education and don’t see being an artist as a career. Avoid wasting time on bad ideas though this can be good of course. Make it awkward.
What’s next for you?
I have shows in Norwich, Southampton and London till the end of the year. I am hoping to make a new body of work for mid-2009.
What is your ‘Must See’ of the Festival?
Alex, Chris and Pascale’s work.
