Pete Smith constructs mechanical automata that appear to interact with the fabric of the gallery/site. These mechanisms move in a manner that is calculated to trigger associations with human behaviour. Smith’s animated artworks seem to oscillate between tragedy and absurdity, as they reiterate a poignant commentary on mundane existence.
